My journey as a therapist and mindful person

How I have put into practice Mindfulness Techniques, CBT, and Poetry to support positive growth

Laurel Osmer Cerrud, LCSW, EDLE is a therapist who has spent over 25 years supporting children, adolescents, and their families with trauma, educational challenges, mental health and substance abuse. In the public school setting, mental health clinics, and community locations, Ms. Osmer has offered a way of examining concerns through reflective practice and cognitive challenging. She has offered a myriad of tools from CBT charts, to therapuetic books, to breathing techniques. Clients have asked for supports for Depression, BiPolar Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety and a series of traumatic life experiences. While aiding her clients with these tools, Ms. Osmer also utilized them and integrated them into her own practice. This helped her to process her own traumatic life situations and also better understand how such tools could really effect change. For Ms. Osmer a climb on a trail in the Shenandoah provided a calming refuge from the stress of work and home with opportunities to focus on breathing and meditate on water. Poetry provided a creative experience for processing stressful emotional responses. Ms. Osmer provides myriad examples through this website. She is also working on publishing a book to share more extensive work.
