Identity
Poem 21
How many faces do you wear?
Perhaps a mask with a little tear?
Can I see the smile below?
Or are you covered head to toe?
Stop by and chat with me
Take a moment to share and see
You see me here and think you know
But all you see is the outward glow
You have really missed it all
My heart, my thoughts, and inner soul
Yet you expect for me to be kind
No matter what you whisper behind
When demanding respect from others
First you must offer it to all
This is hard for all to do
Yet, some of us practice to make it true
Model for parents and children
Otherwise you are no better then the problem
Pain knows no age or size
If you allow, it will divide
Take a moment to step into a shoe
That may seem different and not ready for you
Know that all come with good intention
Laughter, smiles, and support are the best intervention
Offer love without judgment
Stand with others through lament
Take your mask off every day
Show the best and honest self without stray
Be true to who you are
With faults and errors and all
